London, Jan 13 (ANI): A New York cab driver is said to have driven 200 miles to return more than 21,000 dollars in cash that had been left behind in his taxi by an elderly Italian tourist.
The incident had taken place when Felicia Lettieri, 72, had taken a trip in Bangladeshi medical student Mukul Asaduzzaman's taxi on Christmas Eve.Lettieri, who had accidentally left her wallet, which contained travelling money for her and six relatives, in 28-year-old Asaduzzaman's cab, was told by the police not to hope for the return of the money.
But when Asaduzzaman found the wallet he drove about 50 miles to a Long Island address he found in Lettieri's handbag.
However, when he got there no one answered the door at the house in Patchougue, so he left his phone number and drove back to the city.
Hours later, when he received a call from the family, he turned around and drove back with the money, and when he was offered a reward he refused to take any.
"When I was 5 years old, my mother told me, 'Be honest, work hard and you will raise your station'," the Telegraph quoted him as telling the New York Post. (ANI)
