New Delhi, Jan 13: The official sponsor of Indian hockey, Sahara India Pariwar on Wednesday, Jan 13 stepped in with a huge relief of Rs 1 crore, in an attempt to ease the ongoing tussle between the players and the governing body Hockey India(HI) over non-payment of dues.
Sahara India Pariwar said that the company will release Rs 1 crore immediately and that the money would be paid only through disbursement among the players.
Speaking to the media, Shri Abhijet Sarckar, the Head of Sahara India Corporate Communication, informed that the company has decided to pay surplus amount of Rs one crore for the players.
"The amount will be distributed among the players so the players will join the World Cup preparatory camp in Pune," he is quoted as saying.
Protesting the non-payment of dues and incentives for their performance in 2009, the players decided to indefinitely boycott the preparatory World Cup camp last week.
The stir continues as HI officials and the players fail to reach a compromise on the issue despite holding rounds of talks.
