New Delhi, Jan 11: Alarmed by the series of attacks on Indians in Australia, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna has urged his Australian counterpart to hasten probe into the assaults.
“I spoke to the Foreign Minister of Australia. I have drawn his attention to the increasing assault, some of them fatal, on Indian students. And I have requested him to expedite the investigation so that the culprits can be brought to justice," Mr. Krishna said.
Besides communicating the country's concern, Krishna added that the status on the investigation over cases were discussed.
Sources said that Krishna had drawn attention to the racial nature of the crime as nothing which belonged to the victims were lost, unlike an 'opportunistic urban crime' as claimed by the Australian officials.
Australia had refused to accept that the attacks were racially motivated.
