Adebayor wants Togo to return for African Nations Cup

By Super Admin

London, Jan 11 (ANI): Togo skipper Emmanuel Adebayor wants to return to the African Nations Cup after flying out of Angola with his team-mates last night.

The Togo team headed home to mourn the three dead victims of Friday's terrorist attack on their bus, missing today's match with Ghana.

The Manchester City's Togo striker said: "We have decided to go back to the country for three days of mourning. After the mourning period, if the Confederation of African Football has reserved our place, we will play."

"We lost men. We return to our families and we will see what happens after," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

Adebayor's dramatic request was backed by the Togolese Government, which had demanded their return on Sunday.

Sports minister Christophe Tchao said: "The players are leaving with the bodies of their fallen brothers. We have asked the CAF to find an arrangement so we can catch up with the competition later."

Adebayor had earlier expressed his fears for the Premier League stars he was leaving behind, particularly those of the Ivory Coast and Ghana - who play games in Cabinda.

"What I have told their leaders is that they may be attacked at any time in Cabinda. I hope they will be cautious. If we speak of the dead, the competition should have been cancelled. But the Confederation of African Football have ruled otherwise," Adebayor said. (ANI)
