Policeman attacked, killed; ministers don't help
Chennai, Jan 8: In a shocking incident, two state ministers failed to save a police sub inspector who died after a gang attacked him with crude bombs and sickles in Tirunelveli district on Thursday, Jan 7.
Police said, 44-year-old, R Vetrivel, was a victim of mistaken identity and that the assailants were after another police officer.
Police said, "It was understood that the gang had actually been asked to attack Sivasubramanian who had dispute with his in-laws and wife over dowry issue."
According to police, the gang threw crude bombs at Vetrivel, severely injuring his right leg. Vetrivel was then attacked with sickles, inflicting deep injuries on his neck and head.
Tamil Nadu Public Health Minister M R K Panneerselvam and Minister for Environment, Youth Welfare and Sports T P M Moideen Khan who were passing by in their cavalcade allegedly failed to save Vetrivel.
