Ex-Pak skippers demand major overhaul in team, board following Aussie rout

Lahore, Jan. 8 (ANI): Following the Pakistan cricket team's dismal Test series loss to Australia, former Pakistani cricketers have called for a major overhaul in the national side.

Former pacer Sarfraz Nawaz lashed out at Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf's captaincy and demanded axing of the entire team management.

"I think the selectors now need to give more opportunities to younger players so that we can move ahead. This management needs to be sacked as they are unable to provide proper support to the players," the Daily Times quoted Nawaz, as saying.

Even ex-captain Inzamamul Haq, a close friend of Yousuf who allegedly orchestrated behind-the-scenes movements to oust Younis Khan, has criticised the team.

"I think this Pakistan team lacks confidence. We dominated the match for three days and then let it go all in one day which is unacceptable. In the series they were always in a hurry to play their shots which does not work all the time in Test matches," he said.

Another former captain Moin Khan felt both Yousuf and coach Intikhab Alam were to be blamed for the debacle.

"I don't know what happened but I think even if Yousuf was not thinking right and his strategy was wrong after the first half an hour, the support staff including coach Intikhab should have sent out a message to him to change his strategy," Khan said.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan wicketkeeper and captain Rashid Latif has recommended to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to drop Kamran Akmal from international cricket, to give him time to correct his flaws.

"I gave the board a report in which I recommended that Akmal not play international cricket for at least six months but they didn't listen," Latif said.

"He had too many technical faults, had put on too much weight for a wicketkeeper of his size and wearing a helmet to spinners was really hampering him," he added. (ANI)
