Goan footballers accused of molesting airhostess

Mumbai, Jan 6: SpiceJet offloaded all the team members of a Goan football club at Mumbai airport after some of them allegedly molested an airhostess, and misbehaved with other members of cabin crew.

The team belonging to the Churchill Brothers club was flying from Goa to Kolkata to participate in a tournament when the incident took place.

Three players of the team, reportedly including some overseas footballers, possibly from Nigeria, have been detained by the police. However, there is no confirmation if any of the players were booked.

"Some passengers misbehaved with and abused our crew on board flight SG 804. Our pilot took a decision to offload them in Mumbai during the scheduled transit halt," a SpiceJet spokesperson told a news agency.

Churchill Brothers Team management has, however, defended its players, and is mulling over filing a defamation case.

"Is there a bedroom in the plane? It was not molestation. One of my player s hand touched a girl (air hostess) by mistake and he apologised. The crew members later created a ruckus and there was an argument," Joaquim Alemao, president, Churchill Bros, is quoted as saying in an agency report.
