SC refuses to quash FIR against Asaram Bapu
New Delhi, Jan 4: In a major setback to religious guru Asaram Bapu, the Supreme Court has rejected the plea to quash the FIR against the religious guru on Monday, Jan 4.
"Asaram Bapu wasn't present at the time of the incident. So we had given a petition but the Supreme Court did not agree so we withdrew our petition," the religious guru's lawyer DK Sharma.
Asaram had knocked the supreme court's door after his appeal to quash the FIR against him was rejected by the Gujarat High Court under under Section 482 CrPC.
The religious leader was charged under Section 307 IPC for ordering the murder of a former aide Raju Chandok, along with charges of indulging in large scale encroachment of public land.
Chandok had alleged that Asaram ordered his elimination in Dec 2009.for commenting against him.
Asaram was also denied a stay arrest in the case by the supreme court.
