Jhunjhunu (Rajasthan), Jan 2 (ANI): The holy fire ritual known as Yagna Havan was organised by a group of Hindus here with the belief that it will reduce the ill effects of pollution.

The Havan came to an end on Friday.

151 priests chanting Vedic hymns took part in the ritual.

"There have been scientific tests conducted on the impact of Yagna on pollution. After the performance of Yagna, the environment in the neighbourhood of that region was found to be good," said Raghuvir Dalmiya, chief organiser of Yagna, Jhunjhunu.

More than 13,000 people from Jhunjhunu as well as other nearby places participated in the Yagna and made offerings to the holy fire.

"It has been mentioned in the Vedas and the Puranas (Hindu religious scriptures) that performance of Yagna leads to purification of environment and it will bring positive change in the environment," said Satbir Chaudhury, a local resident of Jhunjhunu.

At least 4.5 tonnes of clarified butter; wood, oil and other items were offered to the fire. (ANI)
