Sydney, Jan.1 (ANI): Captain Ricky Ponting believes Australia is finally on track with the development of slow bowlers.
"I'm very happy with the way our spin bowling stocks are looking at the moment," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting, as saying ahead of the SCG Test against Pakistan, which commences over the weekend.
"A few weeks ago down in Adelaide for the Adelaide Test, I got to spend a bit of time with John Davison, who's a spin bowling coach at the Centre of Excellence. He's very positive about the guys we've got coming through. [Jason] Krejza has shown a lot of improvement this year in domestic cricket," Ponting added.
"His wicket numbers might not suggest that but if you talk to a lot of the players who have played him and seen him bowl this year, they seem to think that he's definitely on the right track. Jon Holland spent some time with us in India in the one-day squad over there, unfortunately didn't get a game, but it's great to see him get an opportunity to play a first-class game for Victoria last week and get a few wickets. You talk to Davison about him, and he believes he's a very good prospect. And then you've got Smith, so there are a few guys around at the moment. That's a real positive for us," Ponting said.
Ponting hopes with some certainty over Hauritz and help from the states, the prospects will flourish.
"We've been looking and waiting for these younger guys to really come on and develop, and hopefully the states are doing the right thing by them to give them the chance to develop as quickly as possible," he said. (ANI)
