New Delhi Dec 31 (ANI): Cold wave conditions have intensified in most parts of north India with temperature falling in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh where icy winds from snow-capped mountains added to the discomfort of the people.

On Wednesday, Lucknow experienced the coldest day of the season.

A little fog also engulfed the city in the early hours of the day after heavy rains lashed the city disrupting routine life.

"We are facing a lot of problems due to this chilly weather. Children are not able to go to their schools and the office-goers and others cannot reach their work places. When we woke up this morning, it was raining, due to which the temperature has decreased. Today it is chillier than the rest of previous days," said Rizwan, a resident.

Poor people living on the pavement managed to keep themselves warm by burning pieces of wood.

"The temperature has decreased and people are dying due to the cold weather. People are warming up themselves by burning wood and coal . The government should provide relief for the poor people who don't have any place to take shelter," said Saleem Hyder, another resident.
