Holy fishes become main attraction in Chennai temple

Chennai, Dec 31 (ANI): Scores of devotees of Kapaleeshwar temple have taken to feeding catfishes, which are considered holy fishes, in the temple pond in Chennai.

Thousands of devotees visit the Kapaleeshwar temple everyday, which is one of the oldest temples in the city, to feed the fishes.

There are as many as 20,000 fishes of different species in the tank.

Devotees believe that feeding the fishes would bring good luck for them.

"I have come to know that there is a pond over here and fishes are coming to the shores. I am enjoying it as it is attracting tourists," said Priyanka, a devotee.

The numerous fishes are a great attraction not only for children but even adults.

"Lot of fishes are here in the temple pond there are different kind of fishes. Children are enjoying looking at the fishes and also everybody else," said Leetha Lal, another devotee.

The Kapaleeshwar temple, with its Dravidian architectural style, is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The district administration ensures that the water in the pond is kept clean for the fishes. (ANI)
