Rongdoloi (Assam), Dec 30 (ANI):Orange farmers of Rongdoloi village in Kamrup district of Assam have achieved outstanding yields with the proactive support of the state's Ministry of Agriculture.

Farmers have been helped by governmental initiatives to modernize farming techniques.he project called 'Rejuvenation' has indeed given a fillip to orange cultivation in Rongdoloi village.

Cultivators have been appreciative of the efforts of the State.

"Today, when we are applying lime and oil, the garden gives us 16,000 rupees, which earlier used to be only 8,000 rupees. Now these trees are also free from diseases. We are getting more production after we followed the instruction of sir (referring to agriculture officer). Now our villagers have come forward for this cultivation," said Jibeshwar Bharali, an orange cultivator.

Earlier, these farmers were not making profit from their farming. The State government's Rejuvenation programmes have changed the attitude of the farmers towards orange cultivation.

"In Assam we have very fertile fields. We are supporting farmers; we want to assure them that their interests are our priority. We are helping in every way. And we are getting aid from the World Bank; we have seed village banks; we are helping them by giving them other inputs," said Rani Brahama, Assam Agriculture Minister.

The awareness of the farmers has also encouraged them to market their own products rather then selling them through middlemen.

Benefits of the Rejuvenation programme, which started in the year 2000, have become apparent, now. (ANI)
