US drone attack kills two suspected militants in North Waziristan
Islamabad, Dec. 17 (ANI): At least two people were killed in a US drone strike in Dattakhel region of North Waziristan on Thursday.
According to reports, unmanned US aircrafts targeted a suspected militant hide out in the village, situated 30 kilometres west of Miramshah, the main town of the troubled tribal district near the Afghan border.
"Two missiles hit a house in Dattakhel area, two militants were killed," an intelligence official told a foreign news agency.
The missile hit comes hours after Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani stressed that such attacks would prove highly counterproductive, if the Obama administration moves ahead with its plans of expanding those strikes to newer areas such as Balochistan.
"Drone attacks in Balochistan will be highly counterproductive and will affect Pakistan's efforts to confront the challenge of terrorism," Gilani told US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Michael Mullen, during a meeting here.
Gilani reiterated that Pakistan is committed to root out extremism from its soil.
"The war on terror is Pakistan's war and every effort would be made to eliminate the menace. Pakistan would continue to engage with the US and the international community in developing a pragmatic and effective approach to address the issues that had endangered regional security and stability," he added.
