Panaji, Dec 17: Goa chief minister has finally stepped in to intervene in the ongoing investigation on the alleged rape of a Russian girl by the local politician, John Fernandes.

"I have asked DGP BS Bassi to furnish a detailed report on the investigation in this case," Kamat said, adding that the detailed report will be forwarded to the Russian consulate.

He said that the accused will be traced soon.

Kamat move came in response to the resentment expressed by the consul general of Russian Federation Alexander V Mantytsky in Mumbai on Wednesday, Dec 16.

Mantytsky questioned the ability of the government in providing justice to the rape victim.

Kamat said that foreigners have to practice restrain with regard to late nights in the state.

"There is no restrain on tourists moving out in the night but they should follow certain code and responsibilities," he said

The case grabbed national interest owing to the shocking statement made MP Shantaram Naik in the parliament with regard to the procedure to be adopted in rape cases.

Shantaram had said that the alleged rape of a woman who has been going around with stranger till wee hours of the morning should be treated in different footings.

However, he later clarified stating that he was misunderstood.
