Computerize CAT to stay; fresh test mid-Jan '10

New Delhi, Dec 17: CAT committee has decided not to scrapped online CAT exam in spite of the technical glitches which turned the entire schedule hay-wire.

"IIMs have decided to continue with computer-based test for 2009. We also look forward to continue the CAT through computer-based testing in future," said IIM Ahmedabad director Prof Samir Baruah, who is part of the CAT committee said.'

Baruah informed that the fresh test for students who could not appear for the test will be conducted around mid -Jan, 2010.

Genuine students will be identified based on a system placed by IIMs.

Dodging the question on reviewing contract with Prometric, Baruah said that IIMs will ensure that the problems do not repeat itself, adding that the IIMs will concentrate on completing the exam in fair manner.

The first online CAT exam ran into trouble the very first day of the test and continued for the next few days.

The schedule for the test was eventually extended to Dec 8 instead of the schedule date of Dec 8.

Anxious parents and students had staged a protest in front IIM-A gate for over 40 minutes due to the delay in holding a retest.

IIM-A spokesperson Ishita Solanki said that no formal complain was lodged as the protest was held outside the gate.
