Chiranjeevi resigns as MLA of Andhra assembly
Hyderabad, Dec 17: Chiranjeevi has resigned from the state assembly in support of united Andhra Pradesh.
The Prajya Rajyam Party (PRP) chief quit his MLA post on Thursday, Dec 17, after facing pressure from his party MLAs over the Telangana issue.
Some of PRP MLAs revolted against the the actor-turned-politician support for a united AP comprising of Telangana and Rayalaseema regions.
The rift in the party over the separation of the state surfaced on Wednesday, Dec 16. While several MLAs submitted resignations last week protesting Centre's decision allowing formation of Telangana, MLAs from the Telangana region differed.
After day long discussions with senior party members, the PRP chief started a fast protesting the division of the state in Tirupati on Dec 16.
Chiranjeevi, who was under a lot of pressure to announce a clear stand on the issue was expected to take this step.
However, there are now questions as to why the star politician who supported separation of Telangana during the elections took a U-turn now.
