Bangalore, Dec 15: An international team of scientists discovered as many as four new plants orbiting around near by stars.

A team consisting of British, Australian and US planet hunters discovered four low-mass planets around two nearby Sun-like stars, out of which two are 'super Earths' and three exoplanets (or extrasolar planets) are found orbiting around star 61 Virginis, which is almost identical to the Sun.

The 'super Earths' have masses 5 and 7.5 times the mass of Earth. But they are less massive than Uranus and Neptune. The presence of super-Earths is being seen as an indication to the fact that finding a world like ours is just a matter of time.

"These detections indicate that low-mass planets are quite common around nearby stars," Steven Vogt, study team member who is a professor of astronomy and astrophysics at the University of California, is quoted as saying.
