Canadian Tamils demand trial against Rajapaksa
Toronto, Dec 14: Hours after the reports on the killing of surrendered LTTE militants, SL Tamils in Canada have demanded an international trial of president Mahinda Rajapaksa, according to news agency report.
"Rajapaksa is a war criminal. He should be taken to The Hague to face trial for war crimes. No nation has violated the Geneva Convention as flagrantly as Sri Lanka. No nation ever killed the surrendering enemy," Canadian Tamil Congress spokesman David Poopalapillai.
Referring to the revelation by former Sri Lankan army chief and Opposition presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka, he said that Rajapaksa should face a similar trial like Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic and Saddam Hussein.
Poopalapillai informed that a written appeal would be submitted to UN, International Court of Justice and World Leaders, like India and Canada to take action take the matter into affect.
Fonseka had alleged that defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, brother of SL president, had ordered the killing of LTTE Peace Secretariat head Seevaratnam Puleedevan, political wing head Balasingham Nandesan, and top military commander Ramesh and their families, inspite of them surrendering to the Sri Lankan army.
