Mumbai, Dec 12 (ANI): The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) organised a cycle race here to create awareness about the global warming among people on Saturday.
Film actor Shreyas Talpade flagged off the cycle race, which was also organised to celebrate party founder Sharad Pawar's 69th birthday.
Speaking on this occasion Talpade said: "Global warming is taking place. Talks are being held in Copenhagen for that. Everyone is trying to do their bit towards the cause. The cycle race that they have organised today in Mumbai is a fantastic initiative.
"Today, we are seeing it as a race, but in future, we all I think should resort to using cycles as it will help in protecting nature," he added.
In Copenhagen, representatives from 192 countries have gathered for climate change related talks.
The U.N. says any Copenhagen deal must contain ambitious emission cuts by rich nations, financial pledges for poorer nations and steps by major developing countries like India and China to curb their greenhouse gas emissions.
Negotiators however, are struggling to reach an agreement on the depth of emission cuts needed to slow down the pace of climate change and are worried about the cost to their respective economies.
In the first official draft for a deal at the UN climate conference in Copenhagen says the world should at least halve world greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The blueprint was released as European leaders pledged over $10 billion to help poor countries cope with climate change. (ANI)
