Center says no to demands for new states
New Delhi, Dec 12: Putting a lid on the series of demands for statehood which has sprung up after Telangana, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that there would not be any creation of new states.
'“Allowing Telangana to come up doesn"t mean new states will be created everywhere", Mukherjee said.
The declaration of separate Telangana revived the long pending demands for separate states across the country, with the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) trading TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao's path by declaring an indefinite fast.
The Center's declaration came in response to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's demand for three new states.
