New Delhi, Dec 12: About 50 Rajya Sabha MPs from Bharatiya Janata Party, Left parties and Samajwadi Party and others have reportedly signed for moving of an impeachment motion against Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran.
The move against the High Court judge, who is facing allegations of corruptions and land grabbing, was initiated by the BJP.
According to media reports, BJP leaders, who did not want to be identified, have said that Opposition is likely to demand an impeachment motion in the coming week on the basis of the signatures.
As per the norms applicable to Rajya Sabha, if 50 members sign on a demand for a motion it becomes the property of the House and action has to be taken.
Earlier, the government had rejected the Supreme Court collegium's recommendation to promote PD Dinakaran to the apex court.
The Law Ministry said that there was enough evidence linking the judge to questionable land deals based on the probes conducted by the Intelligence Bureau and District Collector of Tiruvallur.
