Nagaland's longest surviving music band launches campaign to save lives

Shillong, Dec 11(ANI): Music for a cause is the motto of "The Squadron," the longest surviving band in Nagaland.

The group has come together after a gap of six years to perform in the state as part of the "Save A Life All Nagaland Mega Tour."

They dazzled... they rocked... And now, they are back for round two...The five-member band, which had a long-standing dream of "Saving A Llife," recently performed at the Dimapur Sports Council Stadium.

The band that has already toured Mokokchung and Mon, and has received an enthusiastic response from their fans. It has donated over 70,000 rupees to civil hospitals in both districts, as their contradiction to a 'poor patient's fund' to 'save a life.'

"We don't say that out music can 'save a life', not the music, but through the music we are trying to save the people. We are contributing our music what we have the talent; we are giving to the people. In return, what they are giving us, we are trying to help the people out of that,"said Lanu Basist, a band member.

Formed in 1990, the rock band has performed an astounding 386 shows across India.

Its members have acknowledged the support of the Music Task Force, BSNL and the government in making their 'Save a Life' tour a success.

"We like to give thanks to the public, the Naga people, support from the government, Music Task Force in uplifting the music scenario and giving a challenge to the young musicians," said Bendang, a guitarist of the team.

Fans feel 'the Squadron' is doing its best in jamming and coming out will a very good package.

The winners of the annual National Rock Beat Contest in Chennai in 1993, "The Squadron" plans to visit Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati besides other cities to promote their cause.

The band recently donated Rs 50,000 to the Dimapur Civil Hospital. (ANI)
