Ranchi, Dec 8: Voting for the third phase of Assembly polls in Jharkhand began at 7 am on Tuesday, Dec 8.
Security has been beefed up as half of the 11 Assembly polls will be held in Maoists stronghold areas.
“Roads have been covered by the security forces and we are also seeking air force helicopters for peaceful polling," VH Deshmukh, Jharkhand Police spokesperson said.
The areas in which polling for 11 Assembly seats will take place includes Bermo, Bokaro, Chandankiari, Dhanwar, Bagodar, Jamua, Hazaribagh, Shikaruipara, Dumka, Jarmundi and Jama.
This phase of Assembly polls will be crucial for five former ministers including former deputy chief minister Stephen Marandi.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Rajya Sabha member and son of Shibu Soren, Hemant Soren and Shailendra Mahto are the other strong candidates for the polls.
The fifth and the last phase of Jharkhand Assembly polls will take place on Dec 18. Counting will be on Dec 23.
