Japan unveils $81 bn economic stimulus package
Tokyo, Dec 8: The Japanese government has unveiled a new economic stimulus package that includes 7.2 trillion yen ($81 billion) in spending, to strengthen the economy against a return to recession.
The government proposed increasing the package from 7.1 trillion yen to 7.2 trillion yen following a call for more pump-priming measures from the People's New Party.
The package was the first economic stimulus plan under Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama's cabinet since it took power in mid-Sep 2009.
The government did not unveil its proposal as originally planned due to differences within the ruling coalition.
