Mamata can be next CM of West Bengal: Pranab
New Delhi, Dec 7: West Bengal Congress President Pranab Mukherjee has projected Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee as chief minister if the Congress-Trinamool combine comes to power in the 2011 Assembly polls.
Speaking to reporters, Mukherjee said that the party had earlier too forged an alliance with the Trinamool Congress in 2001, projecting Mamata as the chief ministerial candidate.
"The leader of the largest partner in a state (Trinamool Congress) becomes the CM. This is nothing new," he said.
"It is a gilt edged chance to dethrone the Left Front from power in West Bengal," Mukherjee was quoted by a news agency as saying.
As a majority of the leaders urged the leadership to refrain from repeating the mistakes of the Lok Sabha, Mukherjee assured them that the party would bargain for more seats.
