Liberhan report debate: Left slams BJP
New Delhi, Dec 7: The Lok Sabha discussion on Liberhan Commission of Inquiry's report on the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition began on Monday, Dec 7, with the Left front lashing out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“I am ashamed to say that the demolition was a result of a meticulous planning," said Dasgupta. Why the disaster could not be prevented? Why the criminals could not be held in jail? Why did the political system fail?," said CPI MP Gurudas Dasgupta.
Noisy scenes followed as BJP as well as leaders of other parties tried to make their point on the opening day of the two-day debate.
The Liberhan Commission report and the Action Taken Report (ATR) was tabled in the Parliament on Nov 24 by the Home Minister P Chidambaram.
The report indicts 68 people for demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on Dec 6, 1992. Even though it has not recommended punitive action against anyone, it calls for a new law to punish people using religion for political ends.
