'Injured' Tiger Woods opts out of own tournament

New York, Dec 1: Tiger Woods has pulled out of the 2009 Chevron World Challenge, the golf tournament he hosts every year for his charity foundation, due to the injuries he sustained in the Friday, Nov 27 car accident.

"I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament (Chevron World Challenge) this week. I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I'm very sorry that I can't be there," Woods said in a brief statement posted on his official website.

The world number one has sustained facial cuts apart from other minor bruises in the accident which occurred in the wee hours of Nov 27 when Tiger Woods was pulling his car out from the driveway of his Florida Mansion.

He reportedly crashed the car into a fire hydrant and a tree nearby. The investigations into the incident is still on, while the media is buzzing with a slew of speculative theories.

Woods will not participate in any other tournaments in 2009 and will return to action in 2010, reads a post on his official website.
