Hyderabad, Nov 25: The Congress is fielding the widow of late Chief Minister YS Rajashekhara Reddy, Vijayalakshmi for the by-election to Pulivendula assembly which was necessiated by the untimely death of YSR.
Reports suggest that Congress high command on Wednesday, Nov 25 decided to give the party ticket to Vijayalakshmi for the by-polls which are scheduled to take place on Dec 19.
However, Vijayalakshmi is not very keen on contesting in the polls, say family members.
Vijayalakshmi's brother and Kadapa Mayor Ravindernath Reddy, who revealed that his sister was not interested in contesting, said that it would have been better if the high command had fielded YSRs son Jaganmohan Reddy
"It would have been better if the high command had fielded Jagan but as disciplined soldiers of the party we will abide by its decision," he said.
He added that if Vijayalakshmi did not want to contest then they would try to pitch the idea of fielding Jagan again to the high command.
However, sources say that if Vijayalakshmi decides not to contest, YSR's daughter Sharmila or YSR's cousin YS Bhaskara Reddy may get the ticket.
