Bogus ration card in Gandhi's name discovered
Hyderabad, Nov 21: A verification drive in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district unearthed a ration card in the name of Mahatma Gandhi.
The card carries the picture of Gandhi with the name of MK Gandhi Thatha (meaning grandfather in Telgu). The 65-year-old ration card holder's fictitious address is 15-46541, Gandhi Street, Gandhi Road.
The most shocking detail is the father's name. Nathuram Godse, the killer of Mahatma Gandhi, has been named his father. However, Godse has been misspelt as Godsay.
The bogus was issued in Chuttagunta village of Ramachandrapuram mandal in Chittoor district. The district collector V Seshadari has reportedly constituted a three-member probe committee to look into the matter and take action against those responsible.
The officials who will be on the firing line include those who are responsible for taking photographs of the person on whose name the card is issued and the revenue officials who are expected to check the name and address.
There have been many similar incidents reported in the past involving names of politicians, film stars, sportspersons and even Hindu Gods. In Jun 2009, a ration card issued to Laxmi of Vizianagaram district carried a photograph of tennis star Sania Mirza.
