Nifty ends below 5k mark; metal, telecom dip

Mumbai, Nov 19: The Nifty closed below 5,000 mark after holding that level for the last three days.

The sell-off was seen across all the sectors; realty, oil & gas, technology, telecom and metal were the major losers.

The Sensex closed at 16,772, down 226 points and the Nifty fell 67 points to 4,987, as per provisional data.

About 0.5 pc fall in European markets and US index futures also weighted on the markets. Sugar stocks were the major losers.

Nifty trading with negative bias; HCL, Unitech dip

At 12:17 am, the Nifty was trading in a narrow range of 5020-5050. It bounced back from its crucial support of 5019.

The Sensex was down 58.93 points or 0.35 pc at 16939.85, and the Nifty was down 19.50 points or 0.39 pc at 5035.20. About 1628 shares advanced while 1210 shares declined on the BSE. Nearly 591 shares were unchanged.

Realty and IT stocks which witnessed buying in yesterday"s trade were major draggers in today's trade. Buying was seen in metal and pharma stocks.

In the largecap space, Suzlon Energy was up 7.36 pc after its German subsidiary REpower bagged order for 18.45 MW. Stocks like Ranbaxy Labs, Tata Motors, Reliance Power and ACC were up 1 pc.

On the losing side, Jaiprakash Associates, HCL Tech, Siemens, Unitech and Mahindra and Mahindra were down 1.3 pc-2.5 pc.

Nifty trading lower; Sensex down by 116 pts

At 11:03 am, the Nifty was trading marginally lower amid volatility as banking & financial, oil & gas, realty, capital goods, telecom and select technology stocks were witnessing profit booking.

However, buying in power, metal, pharma, auto and select cement stocks capped the losses to some extent.

The Nifty lost 31 points at 5,023 and the Sensex was down 116 points at 16,881. Among the broader indices, the BSE Midcap Index was flat while the Smallcap Index was up 0.4 pc.

About 1,579 shares advanced while 1,238 shares declined on the BSE. Nearly 612 shares were unchanged.

In the midcap space, Bayer Cropscience, Andrew Yule, Great Offshore, Emami and Colgate went up 3-8.7 pc while KGN Industries, Asian Star, HDIL, Moser Baer and Kansai Nerolac slipped 2.5-4.5 pc.

In the smallcap space, Tata Metaliks, Resurgere Mines, Shree Ram Urban, Gokaldas Export and Religare Techno were up 10-15 pc while Pratibha Industries, JMD Telefilms, Take Solutions, Lok Housing and Kaveri Seed declined 2.7-5.8 pc.

Sensex volatile with negative bias; realty dip

The Sensex opened the session with a negative bias and was volatile in trade. Private banking, realty, select infrastructure, oil & gas and auto stocks were under pressure.

At 9:56 am, the Sensex was down 40 points at 16,957 and the Nifty declined 9.5 points at 5,045. However, the CNX Midcap rose 14 points at 7,203. About 537 shares advanced while 318 shares declined on the NSE.

Among the frontliners, Infosys, DLF, Jaiprakash Associates, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Reliance Capital, GAIL, BPCL, ONGC, ABB, M&M, Unitech and BHEL were the losers.

However, Hero Honda, Reliance Power, Suzlon Energy, Ranbaxy Labs, Cipla, Sterlite Industries, Grasim, Tata Motors, Maruti and Jindal Steel & Power were seeing buying interest.

Asian markets were trading mixed. Kospi rose 1.1 pc and Straits Times was up 0.9 pc. Taiwan Weighted and Jakarta were marginally in the green. However, Nikkei slipped 1.4 pc and Hang Seng declined 0.4 pc. Shanghai was flat.
