London, Nov.16 (ANI): Surrey wicketkeeper Steve Davies has said that is eyeing a spot in the England Test squad in the long term, and adds that is looking forward to his stint as understudy to current wicketkeeper Matt Prior.

While his glovework is tidy, it is his ability with the bat that has caught the eye of the selectors, The Sun reports.

The number six batsman has carved out six centuries and 19 fifties at a healthy average of 37 runs per innings during his time at Worcestershire.

And while the 23-year-old views the trip to South Africa as an excellent learning opportunity, he is looking to put pressure on his England team-mate for selection.

Meanwhile, Johannesburg-born Somerset wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter has rejected South African captain Graeme Smith's invitation to return to his home country.

Kieswetter wants to stay in England and try to become another imported Test success.

The 21-year-old qualifies for England in February because his mother is Scottish.

Kieswetter said: "It's very flattering to hear someone of Graeme's stature speak so highly of me but I remain committed to England." (ANI)
