New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): On the occasion of Children's Day, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi paid tributes to Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the country on his 120th birth anniversary at Shantivan, where his mortal remains were consigned to flames in May 1964.

President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit also paid their tributes to Nehru.

Several Congress leaders also paid floral tributes.

Small boys wearing traditional white Kurta Pyjamas and cap sang songs. Children and leaders also released tricolor balloons.

India made significant technical, industrial and social advances when Nehru was the country's Prime Minister.

An ardent democrat and internationalist, Nehru, along with President Nassar of Egypt and President Tito of undivided Yugoslavia, founded the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
