Mass awareness is must against domestic violence: Krishna Tirath
New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): The Ministry of Women and Child Development today commenced a nationwide campaign to create mass awareness against domestic violence.
Krishna Tirath, the Minister of Women and Child Development while addressing National Conference on the Implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act here today said, "about 28 lakh Anganwadi workers are being involved to make the women aware of their rights protecting them from domestic hostility and other women empowerment issues."
Highlighting the initiatives taken by the Government for the empowerment of the women, the minister said the legislations would not help in real sense, until a woman herself comes forward to assert her rights and make use of the opportunities provided to her.
She added that the Government is already working for National Mission for Women to provide a single window delivery of all women related schemes and redressal of their grievances.
Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily was also present on the occasion.
Tirath urged the Law Minister to set up fast track courts to marshal the cases of dowry and rape victims.
The Ministry has asked all the State Governments to appoint more protection officers for the effective implementation of the Protection of Women against Domestic Violence Act and setup more shelters and short stay homes for the victims of the violence, she said.
She added that the efforts of the Government will yield preferred result only when all the sections of the society come to the fore to work against the social evil of domestic violence. (ANI)
