Pananji, Nov 12: A 20-year-old engineering student was arrested on Wednesday, Nov 11 from Maharashtra, in connection with the Goa blast that killed two on the eve of Diwali.
"Dhananjay Ashtekar was arrested after thorough interrogation in connection with hatching a conspiracy of triggering bomb blasts in the state," Superintendent of Police (PRO) Dilip Deshpande has been quoted as saying in a news agency report.
He also informed that Ashtekar has links with the Sanatan Sanstha, a right-wing Hindu group which is believed to be behind the blast.
Ashtekar who is an electronic engineering student of a college at Ichalkaranjee will be remanaded in police custody for 12 days.
The suspect was allegedly linked to planting explosives at Sancoale village, which were detected and defused.
On Oct 16, an explosion in front of the Grace church in Margaon shook Goa. The explosives which were in a scooter detonated killing the rider and the pillion who were identified as Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik, members of the Sanatan Sanstha.
The special investigation team probing the blast earlier two other members of the organisation Vinayak Patil and Vinay Talekar.
