Washington, Nov 11: Sesame Street not only completed 40 years to become the longest running children's show on US television, on Tuesday, Nov 11, but also had the honour of hosting the First Lady, Michelle Obama who spoke on the importance of healthy eating.
With the help of talking vegetables, Michelle Obama explained on how to plant and grow tomatoes, lettuce and carrots. The fashion icon who was dressed in green cardigan encouraged Elmo to eat vegetables as it would make him 'big and strong'.
First aired in 1969, Sesame Street which portrayed characters like Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster became the first teacher to millions of children by helping them learn the alphabets and how to count.
The show which is aired around the world in about 140 countries teaches children everything from basic hygiene to pressing issues such as HIV-ADS.
