Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 10: Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on Tuesday, Nov 10, alleged that the heavy flow of water released from Aliyar dam led to the collapse of canal wall of Moolathara dam.

Achuthanandan said that the collapse of 50 metre-long stretch of the canal wall of Moolathara dam, which is part of the inter-state Parambikulam Aliyar project, led to immense damage of crops in the area as the water released from the Aliyar dam was much more than what has been told.

Calling Tamil Nadu as insensitive, Kerala CM has said that the state will looked into the safety of the Mullaperiyar dam, which is a bone of contention between the two states.

The safety of Mullaperiyar dam has always been in question.

With the collapsed of the canal wall in Moolathara, the doubts have been raised again as the dam is older than Moolathara dam.
