Brazil: Student expelled for wearing short dress
Sao Paulo, Nov 10: A university in Brazil has expelled a student for wearing short dress following violent protests from the students.
Explaining the expulsion of 20-year-old Geysi Villa Nova Arruda, Universidade Bandeirante (Uniban) said that she was expelled for flagrant disrespect of ethical principles, academic dignity and morality.
Geysi Villa Nova Arruda was shown wearing a white jacket in a video footage over her controversial short dress as she was being escorted by military police officers with students chanting 'whore' as she left the campus.
The expulsion sparked reaction in Brazilian websites with many criticising the expulsion of Arruda.
"Pure hypocrisy.Once February and the Carnival comes round everyone will be naked and no one will find it abnormal," said one comment posted by a reader on the O Globo news website.
However the university's legal advisor said that Arruda has been expelled not because of her short dress but because of her 'gestures' and 'attitude'.
