Indian American gets key White House position
Washington, Oct 30: Surender Kumar, Secunderad-born Indian-American, has been appointed as Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director General of the United States and Foreign Commercial Service in the US Department of Commerce, in the Obama administration.
Responding to media on the appointment, Kumar said that he was delighted ,humbled and honored to be appointed.
Known for in expertise for public-private partnership, Kumar is a man of eclectic talents. He was the part of the Clinton foundation as Special advisor and worked closely with the Sub-Saharian Africa and corportae CEOS to establish private public partnership to promote economic development.
He also worked as a sports commentator and anchor for Doordarshan from 1970 to 1985. He has aso publised books on Global management and also served as the Group Operating Committee and as Vice President of Consumer Products for Latin America at Warner Lambert/Pfizer.
He is currently the president and managing partner of kaizan Innovation. Kumar's son, Aditya is working as a Special Assistant to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel and director of Special Projects.
Surender Kumar is the thirteenth Indian American to be appointed by the White House.
