Govt plans for MF Hussain's return

New Delhi: Renowned painter MF Hussain,13 year of exile may end soon. According to media reports, Home Minister P Chidambaram is making every effort to ensure a speedy return of the exiled painter. If things go out well then is expected to back in India by Dec 2009.

Hussain has been living in Dubai since 2006 after a Fatwa issued against him for painting nude portrait of Mother India. he has also been in controversy for painting nude sketches of Hindu goddesses. His nude painting of the Hindu goddess Saraswati resulted in the VHP activists storming into Bombay apartment in May 1998.

Recently on his 94th birthday celebration in London, Hussain had expressed a desire to return back to India.Hussain was given a clean chit in all of the seven cases leveled against him by the Delhi Court in 2008 calling his paintings an expression of creativity.

The obstacle to his return will be seeking the approval Hindu activists who strongly protested Hussain's 'obscene' painting of the Hindu gods and goddess. Hussain's Lawyer Akhil Sibal too has expressed a similar concern and has asked the government to ensure that legal actions are taken against his attackers.
