Melbourne, Oct 27: Sixteen footballers have been arrested for the gangrape of two women earlier this month.
The two women were sexually assaulted at Phillip Island on Oct 10.
According to a media report, the men, reportedly suburban league footballers, were taken into custody at about 6 am on Tuesday, Oct 27.
Detective Inspector Glenn Davies said violence against women would not be tolerated. "I encourage all women who are victims of sexual assault to report these offences to police," he was quoted by The Age as saying.
