New Delhi, Oct 26: A IIT-Delhi scholar was reportedly arrested on Sunday, Oct 25 in connection with the rape and murder of a 19-year-old Naga girl.
The 34-year-old PhD scholar who is was staying in a first floor rented apartment at Munirka in South Delhi allegedly tried to sexually assault the girl who was put up in the second floor apartment of the same building on Saturday, Oct 24.
When the girl resisted the scholar killed her by strangling her and tried to burn her body with a gas stove, the police said. Neighbours found the body of the victim in Vasant Vihar locality on Saturday, Oct 24.
This incident has not only brought to light the lack of law and order in the nation's capital but has also raised concerns over the safety and security of people from northeastern India who often become victims of such assaults
