Congress set to form government in Haryana for a second term

Rohtak/New Delhi, Oct 22 (ANI): The Congress Party is all set to retain power for the second consecutive term in Haryana.

It will become the only party to win two consecutive Assembly elections in 32 years.lthough the party is likely to get less seats than the last time, it is set to win 43 out of the 90 seats.

Congress supporters thronged Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's residence in Rohtak to celebrate.

Hooda's said the poll results do not match the party's expectations.

"We will get a comfortable majority. We were expecting more but are happy with the kind of result that we are getting. History is going to be written as the Congress is going to form the government for the second time," Hooda said.

He also said the Congress high command would decide on the name of the candidate for the chief minister's post.

Meanwhile in New Delhi, Agriculture Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said the Central Government's policies have helped in the Congress-NCP alliance's good showing in Maharashtra elections.

"The Congress-NCP front is doing well. What we have done particularly, we are getting extremely good response in rural Maharashtra. Of course in urban Maharashtra also, we are getting good response. By and large, the farming community seems to be supporting this front because of the policies, which Dr. Manmohan Singh's Government has implemented at the national level. The Congress-NCP Government has executed at the state level seems to be appreciated by the voters. I think there should not be any problem to form the government," said Pawar.

Meanwhile, Congress Party leaders visited the famous Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai. he Congress Party is confident of forming government in Maharashtra.

"We will form the government. We are confident that people will vote for the Congress and NCP alliance," said Manikrao Thakre, Pradesh (State) Congress Committee President, Maharashtra.

The NCP-Congress combine leads in 135 seats of the 288-seat assembly in the state. (ANI)
