Lucknow, Oct 15: Yet another incident of a Uttar Pradesh panchayat ordering 'shoe slapping' to discipline lovers has come to light, but this time it did not stop there. In the latest incident, the lovers were also transformed into siblings with the bond of Rakhi.
30-year-old Pintoo Sharma and his 28-year-old lover were brought before a village panchayat after they were spotted sitting together in a garden.
According to a local, the love-struck couple were asked to slap each other but when they refuses the villagers started beating them.
"Later, Sharma was forced to touch the woman's feet as a sign of acknowledging her as his elder sister, while the woman was made to tie a rakhi on his hand. As a part of their punishment, the panchayat also ordered them to move to different villages," a local, Hardhar Kumar was quoted as saying in media reports.
Police has ordered an inquiry into the Wednesday, Oct 14 incident, saying that the panchayat can not be allowed to behave in 'autocratic' manner.
Earlier, on Sep 17 another UP village council forced a couple caught sitting in a park to slap each other with footwear.
