Srinagar, Oct 7 (ANI): Paddy farmers in Kashmir are expecting a good crop following sufficient and timely rains.

In Srinagar, farmers are happy with the bumper production.

"The crop this year is better as compared to last year, the weather was good," said, Fayaz Ahmed, a paddy farmer.

"All in the family have come to reap the crop, we are very happy this year the production is better than last year," said Dar Fayaz, another paddy farmer.

The harvesting season of paddy in Kashmir starts from the end of September every year.

The State Agriculture Department is expecting almost 6.5 metric tonnes or more of paddy production this year.

"This year our paddy production target will be almost 6.5 metric tonnes and could be even more. Only after the harvest season is over and we receive all reports from the fields and after all the analysis we will be able to give a better picture," said Aijaz Andrabi, Deputy Director Agriculture Department.

Rice accounts for nearly three-quarters of the harvest from summer-sown crops. (ANI)
