AP villages still flooded; K'taka toll at 212
Bangalore/Hyderabad, Oct 7: While the flood death toll in Karnataka mount to 212, dozens of villages in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna and Guntur districts continue to face the fury of the worst floods the country has seen in years.
Repalle town in Guntur district was submerged under water after the flood water breached the Krishna right bank canal at one spot. Scores of villages in Ibrahimpatnam, Jaggaiahpet, Chandarlapadu mandals of Krishna district and some localities in Vijayawada city continue to be inundated.
Latest media reports say that the present water level at Prakasam barrage was 17.9 feet and inflow and outflow of the barrage has come down significantly.
Even though the water levels are receding the state authorities believe that they need to continue being alert.
To help the flood-hit states tackle the situation, the Centre released Rs 209.1 crore from the Calamity Relief Fund. According to an official release, Andhra Pradesh will receive Rs 156.84 crore while Karnataka will get Rs 52.26 crore.
