Belonia (Tripura)/Feni (Bangladesh), Oct 5 (ANI): Indian and Bangladeshi officials attended the inauguration of the new land custom station at India-Bangladesh border to give fillip to bilateral trade.
The custom station situated in Muhurighat under Belonia subdivision in Tripura connects the state with Feni Land Port in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Minister for Shipping and Land Port Shahajahan Khan inaugurated the Feni Land Port in the Bangladesh side in presence of Industry and Commerce Minister of Tripura, Jiten Chowdhury and the members of the India-Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce, businessmen and government officials of both the countries.
"Through this land port, we can export huge quantity of cement. This will help our nation in developing and at the same time lot of youths on both sides of the border will also get employment," said Musarat Hossain Jamal, a Bangladesh cement exporter.
Officials believe that the new land port would help Bangladesh to increase its export to India amounting to one billion US dollar by 2011, which would ultimately reduce Bangladesh's trade deficit with India.
According to officials of the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI), total bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh grew from 2.56 billion dollars in 2006-07 to 3.616 billion dollars in 2007-08.
