UK Revenue and Customs department to question Redknapp

By Super Admin

London, Oct 4(ANI): Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp will be questioned this week by the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office over his offshore accounts, particularly, focused on a number of transfer deals at Portsmouth and Birmingham.

Lawyers and investigators from the department are expected to hold a summit meeting on Sunday to discuss on further lines of questioning.

"He (Redknapp) has been told that he is likely to be called in for further questioning next week. He is keen to get this whole thing cleared up so he can move on and put the ordeal behind him," the News of the World quoted a source, as saying.

Earlier in November 2007, the City of London Police had arrested Redknapp, as part of a corruption inquiry, but they have also maintained that the investigation is related to tax matters rather than fraud.

Redknapp, however, has strenuously denied any wrongdoing and has been patient about the investigation.

The Revenue and Customs department would be reviewing evidence in relation to Redknapp before deciding whether to bring criminal proceedings.

A final decision on the investigation is expected in the next month. (ANI)
