Islamabad, Oct. 3 (ANI): Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff General, Ashfaq Kayani, secretly met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif fuelling speculations of all kinds in Islamabad's political circle.
According to the Dawn, the secret meeting took place at midnight of September 30 in Rawalpindi where Sharif came to meet the army chief without security and protocol.
Sources said that no prominent official was present to receive Sharif when he arrived late on Wednesday night.
"Sharif reached the Punjab House in Rawalpindi straight from the airport, had a shower and changed. In the meantime, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan came to the Punjab House in his own vehicle and then drove away with Mian Shahbaz Sharif," a source said.
"Initially, no one was aware of the destination of the vehicle carrying the two leaders, but later it became known that they had gone to the Army House to see General Kayan," they added.
Last year, General Kayani had barred military officers from meeting politicians, but now he seems to be finding the abstinence quite difficult.
However, PML-N spokesman Ahsan Iqbal denied that any such meeting had taken place.
He even denied that the chief minister was in Rawalpindi that night.
Although airport sources and eyewitnesses are confident that Sharif had arrived in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, but PML-N and military spokespersons have denied any such meeting. (ANI)
