Above 18,000 H-1B visas not yet taken
Washington, Oct 1: As per the latest data released by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), as many as 18,000 H-1B visas are yet to be filled up.
Out of the 65,000 allotted by the Congressional mandated only 46,700 of the H-1B visas in the general category were filled up by Sept 25 thus signalling the plight of the job market and the consequences of the strict regulations of the US Congress.
This is the first time thousands of the most sought after visas have not yet been taken.
In the previous year all the 65,000 visas were taken on a single day and the USCIS had to resort to a computerised lottery to determine the successful candidates.
H-1B visas are meant for professionals from computers and information technology sectors.
